I can still remember my first conversation on the phone with a boy. That boy, well MAN, is still in my life today. I'd consider him one of my best friends. I was only in elementary or middle school. You know, this was before caller id's came to the market AND before call waiting came into the picture. So needless to say the calls weren't so frequent and didn't last long. I mean seriously, what does a fourth grader have to talk about on the phone. We had nearly ever class together so we knew what we did over the course of the day, however, we still talked about it. Beef and chicken were the cheapest meats so we knew what the other would be eating for dinner, however we still talked about it. We went to the same church and were in the same Sunday School class, however, we still talked about it. We had the same circle of friends, lived within bike rides away and grew up with old school parents, however, we still talked about it. Back then EVERYTHING SEEMED IMPORTANT!!!
I'm often asked, "How often do you and your husband communicate?" Lately I haven't known how to answer that question because communication has been scarce. Majority of our relationship has taken place at a LONG DISTANCE. Its been through phone calls, emails and Facebook. Imagine getting to know the guy you felt strongly you would marry, at a distance. We spent all of 2012 getting to know one another as friends and had the deepest conversations. I can tell you everything about him. I know his past and what he desires in the future but sadly I don't know his present.
It may seem silly but right now I just want to know the small stuff. How did you make your eggs today? Which matatu did you take to work? What vendors did you see selling fruits and veggies? What did you talk about with your nieces when they returned from school? What was on the news tonight? How was your tea? What did you dream about?
We have reached 7 months of marriage and right now I just wanna sweat the small stuff.
I AM NOT KENYAN!
